Anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF)

Anterior Cervical Decompression and Fusion (ACDF) is a common, effective surgical procedure, with 85%–95% success rates, to treat neck pain and nerve compression by removing a damaged disc from the front of the neck. The surgeon clears the disc to relieve nerve pressure and fuses the vertebrae using a bone graft and plate.

Key Aspects of ACDF:

• Conditions Treated: Primarily treats herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and spinal fractures.
• Procedure: A 2-inch incision is made in the front of the neck, and the damaged disc is removed (decompression). A bone graft or spacer is inserted to maintain disc height, followed by a metal plate and screws to stabilize the spine.
